Marije Clemens (1985) started her oboe career in 1996, when she got her first oboe lessons from Dorine Jansma. She then studied for two years in the Young Talent department of the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam following which, in 1999, she took lessons with Ali Groen at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. In 2003 Marije started her bachelor in The Hague with Pauline Oostenrijk. In 2006 she went to Switzerland to study with Roland Perrenoud and Maurice Bourgue at the Conservatoire de Musique de Geneve. In May 2008 she obtained her diploma with the highest marks: 6 out of 6!
Marije has taken master classes with Klaus Becker, Omar Zoboli, Bart Schneeman and Paul Goodman.
She has won several prizes, e.g. first prizes at the Dubbelriet Concours in 1998 and the Nationaal Muziek Concours in 1999, and second prizes in the SJMN in 2003 and 2005, the Prinses Christina Concours 2002 and the V Concorso Internazinale de Musica 2005. Her good performances in these competitions gave her the opportunity to play as a soloist with the AJO Jeugd Symfonie Orkest in the “Kleine Zaal” of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Since 2002 she has also done concerts for Stichting Jeugd Concerteert.
From the start of her career Marije has played in several youth orchestras such as the AJO Jeugd Symfonie Orkest of the province of Utrecht, Jeugd Orkest Nederland, and the Nationaal Jeugd Orkest (first oboe). She currently plays on a freelance basis with the Residentie Orkest, Limburgs Symfonie Orkest, Holland Symfonia and JONG NBE. With her quintet Jahimacèli (2004-2007) she also performed at the Orlando Festival in 2005.
In 2009 she joined the Amsterdam Wind Quintet as its new oboist.
